I always knew that my mom was secretly lusting for a mobile phone for herself but always ended up giving this “I care a damn about mobile phones” impression for quite a long while now and follow that with a “they are a pain in the wrong place” comment!

On Independence Day (August 15th!) there were a lot of offers from all these mobile phone vendors and I decided to surprise mom (quite similar to that Nokia ad!) and after some quick research online(being a hardore Sony Ericsson fan, I checked out SE phones only!), I bought her the Sony Ericsson K220i. Here is some dope about the K220i just in case you are contemplating on buying that phone too!

The Sony Ericsson K220i mobile phone was introduced over a year ago and is still quite popular in the entry level market. As is the case with all electronic goods (especially mobile phones), the price has come down from close to INR 4,000 to INR 2400 now which makes it easily affordable to a very large number cellphone users who are very conscious of  price as well as quality.

Here are some of the key features of the phone which should definitely coax you into buying it!

  • The Sony Ericsson K220i mobile phone looks sleek and attractive and comes in two variants - ocean blue or black colour. They had also launched the phone in Frost White color but it appears to me that they’ve pulled that out from the market.
  • The phone is pretty light at 82.0g and very handy at 4.1 x 1.8 x 0.6 inches.
  • The screen size pretty decent at 1.6 inches, 128×128 pixels size, 65,536 color display.
  • It features an integrated VGA camera with screen viewfinder, dedicated menus and direct interaction with in-phone imaging and messaging features. You can store up to 50 images.
  • Low end users love the radio and the K220i has a built in FM Radio to listen to music or news or play a game.
  • It comes with a WAP browser to gain access to the Web from their mobile phone.
  • The Nokia Sony Ericsson website says that this dual-band GSM 900/1800 MHz phone allows 8 hours of talk time and up to 300 hours of standby time from a fully charged battery. My charges the phone once in 3 days so that explains the battery life!
  • Other features include Messaging ( Predictive text input, SMS and MMS), Phone Book capable of storing 300 entries, Speakerphone, Polyphonic ringtones, Vibrating Alert, Calender, Calculator and Stopwatch.
  • As far as connectivity is concerned, the Sony Ericsson K220i includes GPRS Class 8 , 40 kbps, Infrared port, and USB port to synchronise with PC.

However the Sony Ericsson K220i comes with a 2 MB memory and does not allow room for expansion. Another disadvantage is that it does not have Bluetooth connectivity

It’s exactly a month now since I bought the phone for her and I must say that it is a pretty good phone!for any low end user! Overall, the Sony Ericsson K220i is a feature-rich mobile phone at an affordable price!

P.S.: Did I mention somewhere that my mom loves it? :)
