MySpace.com has launched the Indian version of its popular social networking site at http://In.MySpace.com. We believe that this move may be a tad too late in a country almost dominated by Orkut.
Orkut too is not taking this lying down. It has put in quite a few updates in the last few days, one of them being the launch of its mobile version at http://m.Orkut.com. It has also leveraged its OpenSocial platform to come out with a few FaceBook-like applications.
Coming back to MySpace, the desi version runs exactly like its international counterpart with the only noticeable difference being that all the contests and promotions will be (thankfully) tailored for the Indian audience.
Amit Agarwal points out that the current URL was chosen because MySpace.in and MySpace.co.in were already taken by domain squatters!
What do you think? Is MySpace too late to the party or will a big-wig, India centric social network finally appeal to the Indian masses. Let us know in the comments below!

Dubbed as the most comprehensive mobile marketing effort on the planet, Coke’s Sprite brand is creating a virtual teenager hangout, Sprite Yard only on cellphones where members can set up profiles, post pictures and meet new friends.
The U.S site will be available to web ready phones on June 22nd 2007. U.S. consumers can text “YARD” to 59666 and receive a reply with a WAP link to access the Sprite Yard. Coke hopes to overcome such mobile Web barriers by tailoring the format of the service to be used more easily on cell phones and by offering free content.
With stiff competition form other mainstream social networking websites and steep data charges, the success of the initiative depends a lot on the content of the site.
I doubt whether users will hang out around Sprite Yard if they don’t get something compelling in return. For more details, read the Press Release.

How do you get your staff to keep themself up-to-date and aware of a constantly-moving business environment?? How do employees sitting in different time zones collaborate with each other??
Wikis are a perfect solutions to increase collaboration.
Fast Company profiles Disney Executive Vice President of Digital Media Albert Cheng, and how a wiki is at the center of his 20 month old digital media department’s reinvention of TV distribution.
Corporate wikis have become an online means for companies to keep track of what’s going on internally. The Wiki allows Disney employees to review new social- networking applications, compare vendors, and share their latest projects.
Disney’s case reflect how a wiki can be the information, collaboration, and social hub of a group (133,000 employees around the world). Creating a directory of staff profiles helps people hone their wiki editing skills, tell others about themselves, and become more deeply connected to the rest of the community on the wiki.
Forbes.com in late April debuted a beta version of Corporate Org Chart Wiki. The collaborative Web application invites people to contribute what they know about company organizational charts. Since its launch, the wiki has accumulated about 8,500 company charts with employee data.
Wikis have two main benefits:
- They boost group productivity and also act as a business knowledge base where information is logged and easily accessible.
- The constantly-changing nature of wiki means it may never be completely finished, but it does remain up-to-date.
Wikis, along with other content technologies that enable quick content aggregation from a multitude of sources, are allowing both individuals and institutions to collaborate on custom content collections more easily than ever before.

One of my friends just pointed out to me the New YouTube Player from one of the blogs he was reading. This new look definitely looks very good but YouTube is yet to have this change made to all their embedded videos as I still see the old player as well.
Google Blogoscoped says that the related videos shown in the footer can be played directly from the player instead of being directed to the YouTube site. I’m yet to come across the related videos for all the embedded players that I have tried till now. Will update when I do come across one.
The fact that I can play the recommended video directly in the player instead of being directed to the YouTube site definitely appeals to me. What are your initial reactions? How do you like it?
