If you’ve not heard of it before, Songbird is a browser-based media collection manager based on Mozilla, with the tagline “Play the Web!”.

Looks-wise, Songbird is a bit like iTunes, only it can do a lot more than iTunes can.
Songbird is free and open-source software.

New features

For a while now, Songbird couldn’t rip CDs, a real show-stopper for many people.
Now, with version 1.4, Songbird can rip CDs with metadata lookup – a feature that most other players are not without.

Apart from that, the new version can synchronise your music and playlists with a vast number of portable media players (PMPs), including a number of phones (to use your iPod, you’ll have to install the “iPod device support” extension first).
