Many times, there are addons that claim they were designed only for older versions of Firefox, but will end up working perfectly on the newer versions if you can get Firefox to install them.

If you want to force Firefox to install an extension that was designed for older versions of the browser, here’s how.
For Firefox 3.5 or below
- Enter about:config into the URL bar of Firefox
- Right click on any blank space and create a new boolean value
- Name the value
extensions.checkCompatibility - Set the value to “false”
- Create another new boolean value
- Name the new value
extensions.checkUpdateSecurity - Set the value to “false”.
For Firefox 3.6a and above
For the newer Firefox 3.6 series, it’s slightly different.
The name of the boolean value should also contain the version number of the browser.
For example, if you’re using Firefox 3.6 Beta, you would have to:
- Enter about:config into the URL bar of Firefox
- Right click on any blank space and create a new boolean value
- Name the value
extensions.checkCompatibility.3.6b - Set the value to “false”
Now you can restart your ‘fox and your old addons should install without complaint!
