MonPowr is an extremely simple Windows application you can use to keep your monitor turned off while you’re not working.
Switching off a laptop’s display while on battery will save you a lot of power and keep your laptop running longer.
MonPowr is different from Windows’ power management because
- It requires you to click a button to initiate a monitor switch-off
- The monitor is switched back on only after you click, press Enter, or press the spacebar. All other mouse movements/keypresses are ignored.
Since it’s free and extremely light on resources, you it won’t hurt you to give it a try.

There is a readme file located here if you are interested.

Usage
There’s nothing to it really.
There are two buttons
- One to turn off the monitor, and
- One to make the software run at startup
The application has a few features:
- Stays in the same position you last left it
- Stays on top of your other windows so that you don’t lose it
- Ignores small mouse jerks and accidental presses on the keyboard (except for Enter and Spacebar)
- Really tiny – 32KB – you won’t even know it’s there
This is one of those extremely useful tiny little tools out there that make our life so much better after we start using them! ![]()
So now you can sleep in peace next to your computer, without it waking you up every time the monitor chooses to switch on!
