Some people at Apple do have a funny bone. So while they go around claiming that using jailbroken iphones is illegal and is a DMCA violation, one of their patent applications shows a surprise liking for jailbroken iPhones.

In a patent application filed with the USPTO for iPhone biometric security, Apple uses a jailbroken iPhone for illustrations. Here is the image showing traces of Jailbreak(via Engadget and USPTO):

The pic clearly shows Installer.app, SMBPrefs, and the iWood Realize theme from the iSpazio repository reaffirming all doubts that it is a jailbroken phone.

Apple is in a mess, whether to endorse jailbreaking, sue itself or whether to keep the lid shut. Whatever it does, its a funny business all the way.

I was sure that 5 seconds wouldn’t make any difference to undo an already sent email and today I was proved wrong. I was typing a mail in Gmail and pressed the ‘Send’ button by mistake and thankfully the ‘Undo’ Send feature came of use, thus proving me wrong! For all those who do not know what this new Gmail feature is about, here is a run down.

Are you really undoing a sent mail?

No, you are not. There are a few things that are impossible and this is one of those. The new ‘Undo Send’ button holds an email for five seconds once you click the send button.

What has Gmail brought in this feature?

According to Google, the purpose of this feature is to allow Gmail users to recall emails that are

1. Sent to the wrong person
2. Have the wrong subject heading
3. Missing a file attachment

Quoting Michael Leggett, Gmail user experience designer, “This feature can’t pull back an email that’s already gone; it just holds your message for five seconds so you have a chance to hit the panic button. And don’t worry – if you close Gmail or your browser crashes in those few seconds, we’ll still send your message.” Leggett also gives us little insight on why this new feature came into being -  “An email to the wrong Larry pushed me over the edge. I could undo just about any other action in Gmail-why couldn’t I undo send? My theory (which others shared) was that even five seconds would be enough time to catch most of those regrettable emails.”

How do I activate this feature?

To add the Undo Send feature to your Gmail account, turn on the ‘Undo Send’ option in Gmail Labs under Settings and you will see a new ‘Undo’ link at the end of every sent mail confirmation. If you click on ‘Undo,’ then Gmail will take you right back to compose mode.
