StumbleUpon recently announced several changes that will be rolled out over the coming weeks.
The changes include:
- Separation of ‘Friends’ and ‘Subscription.’ You will be able to opt-out of subscribing to your friends stumbles. Why would you want them as ‘Friends’ then?
- You will be able to subscribe to someone’s content without becoming their ‘Friend’. If you like someone’s content then you might as well become their ‘Friend’
- You will be able to subscribe to more than 200 people. Thank you SU for this one
- ‘Friends’ will be mutual friends, ‘fans’ will become subscribers and you will be able to “Subscribe to†stumblers who rate great content. Hmmm…..
- Removal of “ghost†friends/fans. These are the ones who left SU or deleted their accounts. So don’t be too alarmed about a drop in followers. This one was expected with the number of ghosts in SU
- The order of fans is changing. The newest members to SU will show first, rather than the last who friended you. Does this one make sense?

I hit my 200 friend limit again on Friday, so the update’s not in place just yet.
Personally, I thought the friend limit was pretty annoying and largely unjustifiable.
Most people either didn’t even know about the limit, or thought I was lying to them. So I had to write an article explaining the issue, so I could at least point people to something when I couldn’t reciprocate their befriending of me…
