Most offices and schools do not allow access to messengers such as MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger etc. Most of us use Meebo as an alternative but sometimes even that is blocked. Find below the list of Top 10 Third Party Web Messengers, you can try out any of these just in case your favorite web messenger has been blocked at your workplace or school!
Disclaimer: This is ‘my’ list and I’m not sponsored by any of the below mentioned IMs to put up this post
1. Meebo
Meebo is compatible with AIM, Yahoo!, GTalk, MSN, ICQ and Jabber. You dont require a Meebo ID to use these services.
2. eBuddy
eBuddy is compatible with MSN, Yahoo! and AIM and features a mobile messenger too. You can sign up for eBuddy here.
3. iLoveIM
iLoveIM is compatible with MSN Messenger, GTalk, AIM and Yahoo! It does not require you to create a iLoveIM ID to use its services.
4. imhaha
imhaha supports Windows Live, Yahoo!, AIM, ICQ and QQ Chatting Platforms. There is a Chinese translation as well.
5. radiusIM
radiusIM is compatible with AIM, MSN, Yahoo! and GTalk. However, it requires you to sign up before you can use its services. I decided to dig in a bit and therefore signed up with them to check out what it was all about and found out that they have Google Maps integrated with the radiusIM messenger. When you enter your location, it points out to your city on the map and also shows that X number of people are online within Y miles. See screenshot below.
An interesting feature and I haven’t seen anything like this with any other messenger before. But I’m not sure how this is going to help unless you want to chat with strangers.
6. KOOL IM
KOOL IM supports AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, GTalk and ICQ. You can directly login without creating a KOOL IM ID. However, registered users can take advantage of managing their various accounts. One disadvantage though – KOOL IM has too many ads and therefore can be quite an irritant and distraction to the user.
Instan-t Express is compatible with MSN, AIM, ICQ and Yahoo! Messenger services apart from Instan-t Express network. This is not as famous as the other ones but that’s probably good, is it not?
CommunicateTube supports ICQ, MSN, IRC and GTalk. I think there is a problem with their website currently as there is no background image and the text is haphazard. But the messenger works perfectly fine.
9. Mabber
Via Mabber it is possible to send sms from PC to Phone. However, there is a charge attached to it. You can also create a Mabber account to chat with your friends who have Mabber IDs.
10. IM CHAT
IM CHAT is compatible with Yahoo!, MSN, AIM and ICQ. However, this requires you to sign up first and then use its services. It also has a downloadable version for use.
