The WordPress team has just announced the latest WordPress version 2.2, ‘Getz’. It is now available for download with immediate effect. This version includes a number of new features, most notably Widgets integration, and over two hundred bug fixes. It’s named in honor of tenor saxophonist ‘Stan Getz’.
Key Features:
- Widgets, included by default in the core code and available for default themes.
- Full Support for Atom.
- Blogger importer enables seamless import of posts & comments from Google’s Blogger.

- Core Plugin and Filter Speed Optimizations for a lighter and faster blog.
- WYSIWYG support for a future version of Safari.
- Plenty of UI and accessibility improvements making blogging much easier.

Good news from the WordPress Team is that, version 2.2 is based on the new development cycle which means that you can look ahead to stable new features added several times a year. The next major release from WordPress is scheduled for September.
