Cultivating right Internet habits to your kids is a challenge. While children need a certain amount of privacy, they also need parental involvement and supervision in their daily lives. The same general parenting skills that apply to the ‘real world’ also apply while online.
There are quite a lot of softwares available in the market for child protection and Safe Chat is the latest to join the bandwagon. Safe Chat is a computer software that claims to protect kids from the pitfalls of the Internet, such as predators and inappropriate Web sites. It lets parents control what time their kids log on to the Internet, what websites are off limits, and who they chat with. It is compatible with MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ etc to name a few. Safechat also lets parents block bad language and censor personal information, like addresses and phone numbers. Any forbidden words would turn into asterisks.
The software already comes with a list of adult-oriented and porn sites that are filtered out, but parents can customize the list by adding more. Another important feature of Safechat is that it cannot be circumvented or disabled (Atleast as on date 
). It’s also getting praise from some law enforcers. Infact, the police department in Kokomo, Indiana has endorsed it.
